I’m excited to participate in Julie Bellon’s blog tour for her newest book–Love’s Broken Road. Here’s the synopsis:
After surviving an abusive marriage, Victoria Newel needs a clean slate for herself and her son. Taking a job as a math teacher, she moves across the country to the small town of Lincoln, Utah, where no one knows her and she can start over. However, her new colleague, Drew Dalton, offers her friendship and maybe something more. But has her heart healed enough that she could trust again?
Drew Dalton lost his wife to cancer years ago and he locked his heart away, throwing himself into his teaching job. But when Victoria Newel starts working at the high school, she awakens something in him that he never thought he’d feel again. Her gentle nature and quiet strength draws him to her, but it’s obvious she’s hiding something in her past from him. Can he open his heart to a woman who harbors so many secrets of her own?
This book was hard to put down. The theme of abuse and bullying is woven throughout the story. The love story between Heroine Victoria (Tori) and Drew (a fellow teacher) was well done and believable. Tori is still vulnerable and healing emotionally from the many scars her husband left on her mind. She is not ready to jump into a new relationship with Drew, even though he draws her in on so many levels. But Drew is amazing—a woman’s dream—and he patiently serves her as a friend as he tries to heal from his own wounds the past has left on his heart.
I rated this 5 on Amazon, 5 on Goodreads and 4 on my Sweet Scale. It melted my heart like ooey gooey cinnamon rolls, and was delicious for so many reasons—side characters and stories were riveting, the theme tugged at my heart, and the writing was great. This might be the first contemporary romance Bellon has written (her other books seem to be more suspense/thriller/romance), and she did a great job. Cinnamon roll goodness-type books do not get written by subpar authors, and as you can see below, she is an expert in her field.
