Another Great Read

peelThis past week has been an adventure. I had surgery on my hip and so have had some down time. Here’s a great book I read while I was sitting back with my legs up. It’s by one of my favorite authors. I’ve loved all the Women of Merryton books that Jennifer Peel has written, but this one had some extra chemistry or magic mojo that made me really connect with the characters. I loved it.

Rachel Laine was a minor side character in the other books, but I could tell she was special and was excited when she became the heroine in this one. Rachel’s wild twin sister, Sydney, died in childbirth at age 21 and Rachel stepped in to raise her child as her own. For eight years, she has loved Drew with all her heart and been the best mother possible to him. She really is the cutest mother ever.

She definitely doesn’t have room for a man in her life. But when one walks into her office with a life-changing letter, he brings all her fears into play. Brave Rachel is determined to hate him…but Andrew (professional pitcher who now wants to run for state office) is a hard man to hate (even though she has many good reasons to despise him).

My Review

5 DecadentThis contemporary romance is set in Colorado and it was a delightful treat that I couldn’t stop gorging on. I’d definitely rate it Delectable on my Sweet Scale. I highly recommend you read it—as I do all of the books in this collection. Don’t wait to have hip surgery to do so. I haven’t regretted any book I’ve read by Peel yet. She’s a gifted storyteller that weaves each story into my heart (ouch! That needle hurts sometimes, but I’ll take the tension and heart tugging. Her stories are worth it).

With reluctance, I answered. “Hello.”
“Hey, Rachel Laine.”
“Andrew, why are you calling?”
“If I didn’t know better, I would think you didn’t want to hear from me.”
“Imagine that,” I responded.
His laugh came through, loud and clear. “I wanted you to know I made it safely to Chicago.”
“Don’t take this the wrong way—”
He laughed even louder before I could finish.
“—but why would I care?” I got in.
“Ouch. That hurts, Rachel Laine. You know, when I use that line on you, at least I follow it up with a compliment.”
“Yes, and I can’t tell you how nice it is to hear a man tell me all weekend he’s not interested in me.”
“It wasn’t all weekend.”
“Why are you calling?”
“I wanted to check in with you, because of the weather.”
“That’s nice of you, but we only got a few inches, and we’re used to the snow up here.”
“Yeah … of course you are. So, what did you guys do today?”
“We went to church and then overdosed on super hero movies.”
“Sounds great.”
“It was.”
“Aren’t you going to ask how my day was?”
“Are you being serious?”
“It’s only polite.”
“Okay … How was your day?”
“It was horrible. My first flight got cancelled and then I had to wait for hours in the airport for the next available flight, and to top it off, I had to fly coach.”
“Oh, how terrible.”
“You’ve seen how long my legs are. They don’t belong in coach. And now I find out I could have been watching action movies with you guys all day.”
Was this guy for real? I couldn’t tell if he was joking or not. “And what makes you think you would have been invited?”
“Why do you think I would have waited for an invitation?”

  1. Thank you for this amazing review! I’m so happy you loved it! I hope your recovery is going well!

    • Thanks, Jennifer. Recovery is going as smoothly as it can go, I think. It was an incredible book–I really loved it. Can’t wait for more.

  2. As always, I love your reviews. I have a whole Kindle full of your suggestions!
More importantly…hip surgery?!? My have had quite a summer.
Sending you happy and healing vibes and prayers. xo

    • Thanks, Dianne. It’s up and down with recovery. Yesterday I felt like a new woman. Today I’m hobbling ’cause it hurts. Maybe I overdid it. I don’t know. But at least I now know what is wrong and what the end result will be–total hip replacement in the future.
