Chasing Fireflies

Chasing Fireflies

I’m thrilled to FINALLY be able to brag about this book. I read it last November as a beta-reader and have been antsy ever since to shout its praises to the world. Today is its release day…so let the party begin. It just so happens to be July’s Matchmaker book for 2016.

Let’s start with the blurb, so you get a taste of what it’s about.

My sisters think I’m crazy.

But, I’ve never forgotten the mysterious woman from my childhood who told me Paul is the name of my one true love.

She told me to search far and wide for him.

I haven’t stopped looking ever since.

When I stumble across an article about a successful American entrepreneur named Paul who lives and works in China, I’m intrigued. When the opportunity to teach English in China presents itself on the same day, I know it’s not a coincidence.

It’s destiny.

My sisters say I’m chasing a dream.

Just like the fireflies we tried to catch on the warm summer evenings of our youth, the dream seems beyond my grasp. Will my quest for the elusive Paul always be just short of fulfillment?

My sisters tell me it’s a fool’s errand.

Until I remind them of the day we saw the Red Bird.

The memory silences them.

The Red Bird Incident remains inarguable—and proves my search for Paul is not a silly fantasy.

I will find Paul . . . I will.

My Review

This might be my new favorite. The words and phrases are like chocolate (and we all know how much I love that!). I usually skim stories, but I couldn’t skim this one. It had too many tasty morsels I had to savor. The scenes, characters and plot were excellent. Scenes were emotional or educational. I laughed, swiped tears, smiled, shook my head, and learned so many cool things about China. The characters are awesome. Savannah is a sweetheart. I loved her shy, introverted nature and felt her thoughts were true to that personality (since I’m an introvert too). Then there’s Paul, the suave businessman she has traveled to China to meet. Julian is swoon worthy as well. Two perfect heroes, it seems. How’s a girl supposed to choose? Oh, yeah…she was given her fortune when she was a child…and has never forgotten the three bits of wisdom she must always remember in order to find her true love.

Decadent5I highly recommend this book. It is beyond decadent and deserves 5 STAR Ratings all across the board. The story structure would give Frank Lloyd Wright some competition if he had designed words instead of buildings. Taylor Dean gave me questions right off, and I wanted to read through the night to figure out the answers. It was like Taylor knew me and left a trail of chocolate chips leading to a plate of delicious cookies at the end. She knew I wouldn’t pass it up, and now I’m full and feasting on the satisfaction of a well written story. I’m definitely going to reread this again (I want more cookies).

Praise for Chasing Fireflies

Taylor Dean is such a creative and skilled author that she has the ability to make the unusual and the unthinkable seem real.     -Lisa, Goodreads Reviewer

As always I loose myself in Taylor’s books, experiencing rather than reading the story, from that first glance and butterflies in my belly, to the inevitable heartache, to the amazingly captivating events that lead us to the blissful happily ever after.   –Mylissa’s Reviews and Book Thoughts

Am I chasing a dream? Just like the fireflies my sisters and I tried to catch on the warm summer evenings of our youth, the dream seems beyond my grasp. The fireflies always eluded us, flying within inches of our eager fingertips, their incandescent lights teasing us with the promise of magic.
Just like the elusive fireflies, will my dream of the mysterious Paul always be just short of fulfillment? Am I clutching at the tenuous threads of enchantment?
Is my desire to find Paul just a silly fantasy?
Maybe it’s high time I accept the foolishness of my dreams. Maybe it’s time I live in reality and stop dabbling in the realms of the supernatural.
Then I remember the Red Bird and my confidence bolsters. My vivid memories of Miss Pearl remind me that she hadn’t felt like a lady who would lead me astray.
It’s real. It’s all real. Please let it be real.
